Exclusive Single Premiere: Lennon Wells “Baddie” (2025)

Bringing the funk and swagger is Nipaluna/Hobart-based rock ‘n’ rollers Lennon Wells with their banging new single, “Baddie”. The song is a celebration of having swagger and owning it. Don’t look down; look up, look proud, and roll with it. We are overjoyed to be premiering the track ahead of its release tomorrow.

“Baddie” oozes fun and funk. It gives off some stellar Talking Heads vibes, with its hip-shaking groove. The vocals from frontman Ben Wells shimmy and shake, and the guitars and bass have it screaming rock-and-rollllll. The gorgeous gospel-style harmonies are provided by the brilliant local trio, The DK Effect.

“‘Baddie’ is about feeling like king shit and being unapologetic for it,” says Ben. “Having the strut to back it up. There’s this weird stigma in Australia about feeling good about yourself, like tall poppy syndrome. ‘Baddie’ is about wearing that feeling with pride. In this economy, if you still manage to back yourself, that’s a talent.”

The video was shot in their home town of Nipaluna/Hobart, and stars the local legend Lee Power – owner of Paradise Lost, author, artist, and close friend of the band. “Lee’s one of the most interesting people I’ve ever met — truly one of a kind,” explains Ben. “He was made for this clip. That said, I felt pretty bad making him dance to the track about 70 times in one night.”

It was directed by Harrison Dwyer from Hotwax Creative and Ben. It perfectly encapsulates the spirit of the song. Dancing like a king, as though no one is watching, with no fucks given. He has the swagger of Mick Jagger, and that’s no bad thing.

“Baddie” was produced by the band and Alistair Campbell, and mixed by their longtime pal Andrew Hassler of A. Swayze & The Ghosts.

To celebrate the release of “Baddie”, Lennon Wells is playing two secret warehouse parties in late July. They are masters of running DIY warehouse parties with 300-400 punters – so do check out their website for details.
