Exclusive Single Premiere: SIDELINES “Sleep Alone” (2025)

SIDELINES

There’s an emo revival happening at the moment, and that’s good news for Melbourne’s SIDELINES, who is about to drop the second single under this solo moniker, the brooding and emotionally charged “Sleep Alone”. The track follows on from his debut release, 2024’s “End of an Era”. We’re stoked to be premiering it ahead of its release on Friday.

He has leaned heavily into the emo playbook, as he explores the natural instinct to take flight from loneliness. When faced with these challenges, sometimes you need to stay present in what’s broken. It’s steeped with the emotional push and pull, from denial to heartbreak, to acceptance. The vocals have a rawness and earthiness that draw  you into the story. Delicate guitars, a tidy beat and humming bass line lay the foundation for this stirring emotional rollercoaster.

SIDELINES wrote “Sleep Alone” after observing the situations in which his close friends found themselves. Sometimes being alone was the best means to self-preservation. About the track, he writes:  “In the bridge, the lyric shifts from ‘I can’t sleep alone’ to ‘we all die alone’ — which is a bit of an emo twist on the chorus (I couldn’t help myself). “In isolation, it’s a depressing lyric, but to me it’s also a truth that kind of sets you free.”

SIDELINES is an artist well-entrenched within the Melbourne music scene. He first emerged as the frontman of beloved pop-punk/emo outfit Snark and now performs as guitarist/vocalist with All Regards.
