Austin City Limits. It’s a name that is deeply ingrained in the DNA of the music industry. More than just an annual music festival, ACL is a year long enterprise with an initiative to support music. They run their own venue – ACL Live – which opened in 2011 (and which housed Bruce Springsteen at SXSW 2012 and Green Day at SXSW 2013. And 2013 will mark the first year that – like Coachella before it – ACL the festival will be duplicated over two weekends at Zilker Park in Austin, Texas.
Run by C3 Presents – the company who also produce Lollapalooza in the USA and are partners of our very own Big Day Out, alongside the highly regarded Austin Food and Wine Festival – we first covered ACL in October of last year and had an absolutely amazing time, as we enjoyed sets from Neil Young and Crazy Horse, Jack White, The Black Keys, Weezer, future (at the time) BDO headliners Red Hot Chili Peppers and many more.
It gave us a taste of some of the bands who would grace Australia over the Summer, others who had only been on our shores recently, and a few who we wouldn’t be seeing anywhere else anytime soon. It was three days of pure bliss – and you can look back on our reviews and interviews and photo galleries from the event HERE.
Next month we will be returning to Austin to cover the first of two weekends of the annual three day event – this year headlined by The Cure, Depeche Mode, Muse, Queens of the Stone Age and many more. With Muse already confirmed for a Summer stint in Oz, and QOTSA a seemingly sure thing as well, we can only hope this bodes well for The Cure and Depeche Mode… But in any case, we look forward to bringing you that coverage.
In the meantime we’d like to look back at our five favourite interviews we did last year, featuring one of Australia’s finest artists, alongside some unexpected treats and a few of our international favourites, too… enjoy!
And we’ll see you back at the park over the first weekend of October…
