The Presets, Kimbra and The Jezabels among the big names set to play CMJ in New York City this October.

One of the biggest music festivals in the world is the CMJ Music Marathon, which hosts 1,300 live performances across over 80 nightclubs and venues scattered around Manhattan and Brooklyn. Yesterday the festival unveiled its first lineup and as is usually the case, many Australian bands will be taking part, with The Presets topping the bill.

Also amongst the highlights of the lineup are: The Walkmen, The Mountain Goats, Kimbra, GZA, OFF!, King Tuff, Killer Mike, Com Truise, DIIV, Pig Destroyer, The Jezabels, Electric Guest, Poolside, Daughn Gibson, Robert DeLong, Icona Pop, Emma Louise, Mac DeMarco, Prince Rama, Young Magic, MS MR, Sundress, The Soul Rebels and Twerps.

Die! Die! Die! from New Zealand, who are currently in our own country, will also be making the trip, as will Opossum and Australia’s own The Laurels, Skipping Girl Vinegar, Strange Talk, Gold Fields and many more… the rest of the artists announced yesterday are listed at the end of this article.

In other news, the official CMJ 2012 T-shirt has been commissioned by designer and Les Savy Fav frontman Tim Harrington. So we’re quite excited to see and wear that one. In addition to the music, CMJ also presents over 70 informative panels with renowned speakers, an Entertainment Business Law Seminar and College Day, a specialized seminar geared toward college and non-commercial radio programmers. Your full CMJ badge grants you access to shows, Q&As, meet and greets, mixers, parties and parties. CMJ 2012 is headquartered at New York University’s Greenwich Village campus.

The festival will be held from October 16th to 20th in New York, with more details available at http://www.cmj.com/marathon. We’ll be heading over to cover the event for the second consecutive year so make sure you stay tuned for that!
