FUTURE MUSIC FESTIVAL

Future Music Festival not returning in 2016 due to low ticket sales in recent years.

Some of us may have seen it coming, especially in the wake of Soundwave axing Adelaide and Perth from its national tour and of course, the cancellation of the Big Day Out, but today Mushroom has confirmed that the Future Music Festival has become the latest in the line of festival casualties. While 2015's festival featured the likes of Drake, The Prodigy and Die Antwoord, the touring festival drawing considerable acclaim, the festival promoters have named low ticket sales over the past two years as the reason for the cancellation of the festival's run in 2016.

Festival Review: Future Music Festival - Flemmington Racecourse, Melbourne (08.03.15)

In the wake of a year that should best be remembered as the festival killer, the management at Future Music must have at least been a bit anxious. Big Day Out was forced to skip the year due to losses, Soundwave Fest were forced to cut out not one but two whole cities from their line–up, and death was swift for the likes of Pyramid Rock, Harvest Fest and even Future Music Asia. Combine that with the fact that they had banked most of their money on one [non-recycled] major headliner who, despite having the draw of this being their first Australian tour, hadn’t released a full length album since mid–2013. So when Drake released his newest mixtape If You’re Reading this it’s Too Late, the festival probably saw it as much of a godsend as his fans did. But can a festival survive with one single [non-recycled] headliner?

Festival Review: Future Music Festival - Royal Adelaide Showgrounds (09.03.15)

Future Music came through Adelaide on a weekend in March where, let's be honest, people have been getting on it for some time. By Monday, WOMAD's been kicking for three days already, the Adelaide Fringe has entered its third week and the Adelaide Festival its second. Future Music making its final stop of the national tour at the Adelaide Showgrounds marks the beginning of the official wind-down of our festival season and by the looks of punters streaming through the gates in the early afternoon, any signs of weariness were non-existent.

Festival Review: Future Music Festival, Doomben Racecourse, Brisbane (07.03.15)

Future Music Festival has returned to Brisbane as part of its 2015 circuit. This year the big three were The Prodigy, who are busy sorting out a new album for this year, while serving hard rave and jungle style beats in the live arena. Then there was Avicii, the name everyone knows and finally the heartthrob of the lineup, Drake, who came all the way from Toronto to accost the hearts of Aussie girls everywhere.

Statement from Future Music Festival Asia regarding permit denial

The organisers of Future Music Festival Asia has released a statement this morning in regards to the rejection of appeal of their Public Entertainment Licence for next week's festival. The Singapore Ministry of Home Affairs stated that Livescape Singapore, who holds the rights to organise Future Music Festival Asia, had been rejected by Singapore Police twice in their initial permit applications due to "serious concerns" over potential drug abuse at the event.

With the sweltering final day of the 2014-2015 summer period beaming down upon Randwick Racecourse, Sydney welcomed another edition of Future Music Festival with a crowd of around 50,000 strong fully taking in one of the festival's biggest line ups in years. Future is now the first Australian festival to deliver world-dominating hip hop artist Drake, giving him a 75-minute headline set that sat neatly in a schedule with other big name acts like The Prodigy, Example, Aviici, Die Antwoord, Knife Party, Hilltop Hoods, and Sven Vath.
