TYLER THE CREATOR

Tyler, The Creator cancels Australian tour dates amid recent controversy.

It comes as no surprise to those following the recent headlines Tyler, The Creator has been making around the country, but it has been officially confirmed that the Australian leg of his world tour in support of new album Cherry Bomb has been cancelled. Scheduled to begin next month, the tour has been marred with petitions, online protests and a lot of airtime dedicated to Tyler's musical output and sections of the Australian public who perceive the rapper as promoting brutality, violence against women and generally being an offensive individual needing to be stopped from entering the country.

Tyler, the Creator announces Australian tour for 2015

With his buddy Earl Sweatshirt coming down to rock Splendour in the Grass, and a recent release with the excellent Cherry Bomb, many have been begging for an Australian return from Tyler, the Creator. It was to expected.

Album Review: Tyler the Creator - Cherry Bomb (2015 LP)

Tyler the Creator’s latest album Cherry Bomb has sorely mistaken anyone who discarded him as ‘just another young rapper’. 24-year-old Tyler is the leader of hip-hop crew Odd Future that boasts the success of names like Frank Ocean and Earl Sweatshirt. The crew are known for pushing boundaries, and Tyler’s third solo album is no different. It is heavily influenced by rock, soul and hip-hop and a stark contrast to his previous records Wolf and Goblin. Cherry Bomb features brass, strings and soulful female vocals, but there are still hard-hitting distorted synths that are an integral part of Tyler’s sound.

The Festival Diaries: The Governor's Ball in New York City (Part Three: Day Three, 2014)

Day three dawns and the sun gods have visited us again – time to get alarmed, because now we know New York will be haunted with rain, fog and mugginess for the weeks to come. Only two minutes in, Canadian's Half Moon Run have set the bar for the day, with smooth harmonies and a gracefulness that makes every instrument from drum to kazoo look like an elaborately choreographed move – more dancing than music-making.

Top 20 Hip-Hop Releases of 2013: Part 1 - 20-11

2013 has been a whirlwind for hip-hop the world over. The growth on our shores has been insane with artists like Horrorshow, Remi, and Jackie Onassis spoiling us with quality; classic sounds of the South continue to pervade commercial music over in the states (Juicy J and Mike WiLL Made It are taking over pop/Miley Cyrus); the future leaders of hip-hop (eg, A$AP Rocky, Chance The Rapper) are still cropping up with stunning debut albums and noteworthy mixtapes; and the more established artists are either breaking new ground (Yeezus) or reinforcing their reputation (Legends Never Die).

Live Review: EarlWolf (Tyler, the Creator + Earl Sweatshirt) + Taco - Enmore Theatre (07.06.13)

If it wasn’t already clear, Odd Future are now an entire sub-culture within hip-hop with a thick narrative built around their antics, their records, and their image. Around the world hundreds upon thousands of 12-25 year old kids spout their cringe-worthy affinity for all things Golf Wang, and they are all reduced to mere sycophants when in the presence of their idols. In this case, only four of their heroes were here for the Earlwolf tour, but it was more than enough to reiterate the power this collective hold over their young fanbase.

The ever notorious duo of Tyler, The Creator and Earl Sweatshirt landed in Brisbane for the last show of their much-talked-about Earlwolf tour. Kicking off with the title track from Tyler's latest album Wolf, Tyler and Earl rampaged through 'French' and 'Sam Is Dead' with little pause.

Album Review: Tyler, the Creator - Wolf (2013 LP)

“Fuck”: the first word out of Tyler, the Creator’s mouth on his latest concept LP Wolf, and, since this latest package plays out as a prequel to his prior albums, our introduction to Tyler’s incredibly complex and cathartic journey; the journey through which the image of who Tyler is as a person finally comes together, cementing his position as one of the most fascinating rappers to emerge in the past couple of years.
