Music Video of the Day: The Weeknd "Tell Your Friends" (2015)

The Weeknd is currently celebrating the release of his second official studio album, Beauty Behind the Madness, which is set to cement his position at the centre of the pop world, and as one of the biggest artists of the past few years. His latest single is "Tell Your Friends" with a beat provided by none other than Kanye West, who inspires the Canadian vocalist towards a video similar to West's "Flashing Lights", a dark and slightly macabre story that also brings in hints of Radiohead's "Karma Police" video. Check it out below.

Listen to The Weeknd and Lana Del Rey duet on "Prisoner"

There was no way this collaboration was never not going to break the internet. The Weeknd has already ensured that his upcoming album Beauty Behind the Madness hits the pop world in a big way when it's released later this month, with some of the year's biggest hits helping establish his name around the world. The contemporary R&B artist made things even more interesting when he released the tracklist, instantly raising eyebrows with a listed duet that teams him up with none other than Lana Del Rey.

Album Review: Miguel - Wildheart (2015 LP)

Miguel has been setting the bar high with his music. For someone that has a striking ability to apply himself, Wildheart is a sophisticated work of art. Since 2012's Kaleidoscope Dream, his experimentation with rock music has glued together his songs quite nicely, and the music on this record is no exception. The transition from his slick and contemporary elements of R&B beats has taken Miguel out of his comfort zone and it works. Wildheart is a refreshing look to why it's important to channel creative energies when making new material.

Paul McCartney, Alabama Shakes, Hot Chip and more help kick off Lollapalooza in Chicago for 2015!

Sir Paul McCartney made his Lollapalooza debut last night, helping kick off the iconic three day event in Chicago with a massive two hour, 15 minute set that saw the legendary artist delve into his catalogue of Wings and Beatles songs that had the tens of thousands of fans singing along from start to finish. He even had Brittany Howard from Alabama Shakes singing along, when she joined the Beatle for a rendition of "Get Back" on both vocals and guitar, taking on a verse for herself with a gusto that we're sure would have contradicted the "pinch me, is this actually happening?" feeling anyone would experience in that situation.

Five of the best live surprises at Coachella 2015

Both weekends of Coachella are now in the bag for 2015, and while the rest of the world nurses their FOMO, those who were in the crowd are no doubt going through the laundry list of surprise guest appearances to try and pinpoint their favourite live moment at the festival. Thanks to Coachella - the global live stream of the festival - and, of course, social media, we got to witness some of these incredible, and genuinely unexpected, on-stage guest appearances. Here's five our our favourite:

Album Review: Fifty Shades of Grey (2015 Soundtrack)

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last three years you have probably heard of the erotic romance novel Fifty Shades of Grey. There are mixed (generally pretty terrible, to be fair) reviews of the movie but the soundtrack, featuring artists such as Ellie Goulding and Beyoncé Knowles debuted at number two on the Billboard chart, two days before the film’s opening, and is without question one of the best Soundtracks of recent memory.

Single Stream: The Weeknd "Earned It" (2014)

Continuing to usher in a new generation of R&B The Weeknd has released a new song in time for those private holiday moments, but it's not as explicitly raunchy as you'd expect, which is especially surprising since it's for the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack. Rather than the electronic undertones you'd usually find him gliding through, The Weeknd opts for something a bit more pop-friendly, in the vein of early 2000's R&B, without sacrificing his signature salacious vibe.

Single Stream: The Weeknd "Often" (2014)

If you were expecting something a bit less sexual from silky vocalist The Weeknd then you may be a bit disengaged when you hear "Often." The new single by the super popular Canadian crooner is as risque as any of his other hits, tasking slick producer Ben Billions with a bouncy electro-R&B soundscape for Abel to lace with his buttery tone and sly sexual prowess.

Single Stream: The Weeknd "Drunk In Love" (Beyoncé Cover) (2014)

Everyone's favourite hipster-R&B singer has decided to add to the pile of remixes Beyonce's 'Drunk In Love' has inspired. The Weeknd's take on the sultry bass-banger flips the original's production with electronica, muffled bass, and his infectious falsetto, matching Bey with graphic and rather up-front depictions of drugged-up sex.

New Music Video (NSFW): The Weeknd "twenty eight" (2013)

The brand new video from The Weeknd is for the single "twenty eight", which was one of three new recordings featured on his Trilogy release (out now through Universal). Directed by Nabil Elderkin (who has worked with Kanye, Bon Iver and Frank Ocean), the beautiful song is accompanied by a NSFW video. In other words, there's nudity - and enough of it that makes us wonder how YouTube agreed to post it? Well, until they take it down, enjoy...

Album Review: The Weeknd - Trilogy (2012 LP)

The Weeknd - Trilogy LP

Last year, prolific Canadian R’n’B artist The Weeknd released three brilliant mixtapes. The appropriately titled Trilogy is a compilation of all three, plus some bonus tracks thrown in. Organised chronologically, it features House Of Balloons, Thursday and Echoes Of Silence in their entirety. Each was such a strong statement when originally released, and, in a testament to the quality of the artist and the albums, although all of these songs are over a year old, this is one of the best releases of the year.
