SOMETHING FOR KATE

Live Review: Something For Kate + Jen Cloher - Taronga Zoo, Sydney (20.03.15)

The first that strikes you as you complete the walk down the hill into Taronga Zoo to find the stage set at the waterfront for the Twilight at Taronga is the stunning backdrop. You would be hard pressed to find a more picturesque venue in the country. The Sydney Harbour skyline looms large and it’s hard not to be awed by the beauty of it even in the dimming and overcast dusk.

Live Review: Something For Kate - Howler, Melbourne (04.03.15)

The surprise announcement of Something For Kate's intimate warm-up Howler show in anticipation of their Golden Plains set had a fair few people more excited than your typical Wednesday. As someone that has seen Something For Kate more times than you could count, it's fair to say Wednesday night was truly unique. The lack of Stephanie Ashworth taking charge of the bass remained unsettling throughout the whole evening, but their explosive 80+ minute performance sans-Steph was the mark of the consummate professionals these guys are.

the AU interview: Stephanie Ashworth of Something For Kate (Melbourne) talks 20 years of S4K and Twilight at Taronga

Something For Kate has been a bonded musical machine that never seems to make a step in the wrong direction. Whether it be moody melodic refrains within Official Fiction or the more gritty sounds of earlier albums like Elsewhere For Eight Minutes, the band have an ability to just keep on keeping on. After twenty years, the group are still performing and will do so at an upcoming Twilight at Taronga concert. Stephanie Ashworth from the group was kind enough to answer a few of our questions.

Classic Album Review: Something For Kate - Echolalia (2001 LP)

It's a weird feeling looking up interviews that were made over a decade ago. Back in 2001, Something For Kate were just ramping up their successful music career, with Beautiful Sharks already considered a huge achievement and their 2001 release Echolalia the album that confirmed them as one of our finest talents - here to stay, no less.

Live Review: Something For Kate - HQ, Adelaide (15.08.14)

Something For Kate returned to their beloved Kingdom of Adelaide last night to finish up what has been a wildly popular 20th anniversary tour around the country. It was the sort of show, if you've seen the band before, you'd know was going to be good, but it wasn't until we're about five minutes into the short film chronicling their career that you get smacked with a feeling of 'Shit, this is going to be an emotional one'.

Live Review: Something For Kate - The Forum, Melbourne (18.07.14)

Twenty years on and they’re still selling out shows right around the country. Something For Kate’s 20 year anniversary tour was the culmination of all they’d learned on the road, putting on a truly spectacular performance- not that we would expect any less from the band that helped shape Australia’s ‘90s alternative scene.
