As 80,000 people from all corners of the globe converged in the small town of Manchester, Tennessee, Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival kicked off its 11th round of festivities today.

Now I have never been to a Big Day Out before, so I can’t exactly jump on the criticising bandwagon and complain about how it’s changed. I will say that compared to the other festivals that I have been to, it was a little on the smaller side; with most of the stages packed into a small section of the foreshore.

Attendance at the Adelaide Big Day Out was way down this year, but the enthusiasm level of the crowd was high. A scaled down show, minus the eastern states headliner Kayne West and one main stage gave this festival a more intimate feel. Between the main stage and the Guvera skate stage, Legends of Vert performed on the half pipe skate ramp. Perfect weather for an enjoyable day of music.

Got to give it to the boys in The Bronx. While they are across town opening for Soundgarden, I'm at The Metro waiting for The Vasco Era, who in the past have not impressed me much. The plus side is, my only clash at Thursday's Big Day Out has now been solved and I'm looking forward to some Mariachi music soon enough.

In spite of lagging ticket sales, the 2012 Big Day Out boasts one of the strongest lineups in years. Sure, you've got a couple of frequent visitors, but from the top to the bottom, artists we've never seen in Australia litter the lineup, alongside the best in local talent. So we've put together 10 tracks we can't wait to hear at Big Day Out - some we'll be hearing for the first time, some old favourites - which was actually terribly difficult to narrow down. This should be one hell of a party.

While the second announcement for the 2012 leg of iconic festival the Big Day Out was announced today, some odd decisions in tweaking the lineup in certain cities also came through the wire.
