Day three dawns and the sun gods have visited us again – time to get alarmed, because now we know New York will be haunted with rain, fog and mugginess for the weeks to come. Only two minutes in, Canadian's Half Moon Run have set the bar for the day, with smooth harmonies and a gracefulness that makes every instrument from drum to kazoo look like an elaborately choreographed move – more dancing than music-making.

Following on from his performance at Splendour in The Grass over the weekend, 24-year-old Brit James Blake had blessed only three lucky states with three sweet side shows. Just like his last short fling in Australia earlier this year – the Melbourne show sold out like it was going out of fashion.

Festival Review: Splendour in the Grass Day Three - North Byron Parklands, Byron Bay (28.07.13)

Winter festivals are far from an easy exercise to put yourself through, especially ones that run multi-days. When you think about it, it's quite remarkable Splendour in the Grass has become the popular event it has, line-ups irrespective. I guess people are just gluttons for punishment. I feel this way after every Splendour.

Album Review: James Blake - Overgrown (2013 LP)

British musician James Blake shot to prominence with the release of his debut self-titled album in 2011 – ever since then, everyone has been hanging on for his sophomore release. Overgrown is everything we could’ve hoped for. Blake couples his incredible, soulful singing with glitchy, bass-filled beats and the result is a unique fusion of polar opposites that works incredibly well.
