
Flying Nun, New Zealand's top indie label celebrated 30 years with a show in Melbourne. Bands played tight 20 minute sets that consisted of two originals and three covers from the Flying Nun stable. We found Darren Hanlon wandering around The Aussie BBQ, so thought we best sit him down for a chat. This was his second consecutive year at SXSW, so we gain some words of wisdom, touring America, and talk about his latest album. Video shot by Andrew Wade.
A lot about tonight’s show at the Factory Theatre seemed to be about missed opportunities. For a start, it wasn’t sold out and a black curtain was pulled across the side of the stage obscuring the view from a row of comfortable lounge chairs. Then there was the first of the support acts.

Fresh from three months of touring the USA with the likes of Billy Bragg, Corin Tucker, Tim Kasher and Sean Lennon, Australian songsmith Darren Hanlon will end the year with his customary Christmas shows in Sydney and Melbourne next week.
