Music Video of the Day: Big Scary "Organism" (2015)

Having just added new shows to their current tour, Big Scary have certainly been busy! Today, their newest offering “Organism” has made our Music Video of the Day. Inspired by LCD Soundsystem's “All My Friends”, and a number of Nick Cave clips, the video is a single-shot clip directed Shaun Garland and Tom Iansek, click through to watch the video in full!

Single of the Day: Big Scary "Organism" (2015)

Big Scary have today released a brand new single in "Organism" and it's made us realise how much we've missed Tom and Jo! The Melbourne duo have always been known for producing some stellar pieces of inventive pop music and this single is another example of their exciting and unique take on the genre. Having been working on their new album and putting the final bits and pieces together, "Organism" is a great glimpse into what's still to come.

The Australian independent music industry was celebrated last night at the Carlton Dry Independent Music Awards, held in the new venue at North Melbourne's Meat Market building. Performances by Meg Mac, Sheppard, DMA's, SAFIA and Carlton Dry Global Music Grant winner REMi entertained the large crowd, with the award winners taking home some great trophies and praise. Big Scary returned home to Melbourne after three months touring the U.S promoting their album No Art, and they played one final show for their hometown before disappearing for a while to write and record their next album. They played in the beautiful art deco Ormond Hall in front of a very quiet and tentative crowd.

The lineup of performers and award presenters for the 2014 APRA Music Awards has been announced! To be held at the Brisbane City Hall next Tuesday, the list of guests set to appear is impressive indeed and celebrates the great talent we've got going for us.

Big Scary take out the 9th Australian Music Prize!

Melbourne's Big Scary have taken out the 9th Australian Music Prize (AMP) for their album Not Art! As winners, they've taken out the coveted $30,000 prize, courtesy of the principal partner PPCA. The album, which has been a favourite of ours here at the AU, represented the great musical range of both Tom Iansek and Jo Syme - a well deserved winner of the prestigious prize!

9th Coopers AMP announces shortlisted artists for 2014, including Big Scary and Cloud Control!

The 9th Coopers AMP has announced the nine Australian artists who have been shortlisted for the prestigious award for 2014. Chosen from a long list of 43 artists, the judging panel had a hard task upon them in whittling down the list to come to the final group which was announced over the weekend. Officially unveiled at the Shortlisted! event in Melbourne, co-hosts Ella Hooper and Urthboy revealed that the following bands and solo artists are up for the award.

The latest addition to Australia's ever-growing crop of boutique festivals, PANAMA, has just gotten bigger! The Tasmanian festival, set to go down on March 8 and 9 this year, is going to be quite the intimate and secluded affair, as far as festivals go. With only 1000 tickets being made available, PANAMA is set to offer punters quite the unique experience; spending two days with some amazing acts, pop up cabarets, storytelling sessions and more!

Friday Nights at Melbourne Now commence on February 28th!

Four local Melbourne musical acts will perform on stage at the NGV’s Great Hall as part of the 'Friday Nights at Melbourne Now' series, beginning on Friday February 28th. All events will be free, but please note that capacity is limited.

Festival Review: The Falls Music and Arts Festival (Day Two) - Byron Bay, NSW (01.01.14)

With a new year, a scorching day and hangover to contend with, it was Chet Faker, who had the chance to soothe the sizeable crowd. Taking the stage with his three piece touring band, it was heartening to see them positioned in a straight line, ensuring all members were given equal importance.
