Angus and Julia Stone (Sydney) discuss "indie music", future touring & album plans and Rick Rubin at Laneway Singapore

This past weekend the AU review had the opportunity to sit in a media conference with Australia’s folk brother and sister duo Angus and Julia Stone at Laneway Festival in Singapore.

In the first part, Julia discusses the idea of ‘making it’ and how it is driven on the love of making music; not keeping popularity the main goal in a music career. Angus, meanwhile, weighs in on the ‘indie’ subculture and how it is seen as a lifestyle with vast opportunities.

The sibling duo then discuss the acts they were looking forward to seeing at Laneway in Singapore such as Chet Faker, Pond and St Vincent.

In part two, the sibling duo discuss the months since the release of their latest album which has taken them “to corners of the world we haven’t been to yet”. It’s given them the possibility to play new places such as South-East Asia as well as South America.

Angus admits that they had no current plans of getting back together until the opportunity to work with Rick Ruben came about… “(He) got us back together”. They also discuss future music plans and the possibility of “making another record in the middle of the year”.
