W Brisbane will host a floating cinema in their pool throughout March

Lifestyle hotel and local haunt W Brisbane is set to flip the idea of an open-air cinema throughout March when it launches its own take on the popular night out. As part of a new “Float in Cinema” series, the property will be using their famous WET Deck as they transform the space into a floating cinema.

Launching officially on Tuesday 25th March, and continuing every Tuesday after that up until the 24th March, Float in Cinema will be screening some fan-favourites to match the aquatic theme of the lavish WET Deck, which usually looks like it’s part of a private mansion owned by David Bowie.

The first time on the schedule will be none other than Baywatch, although we have a sneaking suspicion that the most popular night will be the second week: Notebook. From there, it’s cheesy 1988 drama Cocktail, 2000 Leonardo DiCaprio-starring The Beach, and (underrated) Aussie shark thriller Open Water.

Movie-goers will have access to the WET Deck’s bar area which will have a list of “flirty fusion” cocktails nestled into built-in cocktail holders. These will be served alongside tasty cinema snacks and an eclectic design backdrop, with orders taken poolside and delivered via floating trays.

After each film, guests will be able to stay on (or rock up early) to enjoy pre or post-flick dinners and drinks from the balcony, perfect for taking in those Brissy sunset views.

Each session is set for a 7pm seating time, for a 7:30pm screening. Tickets will $25pp and the dress code is “summer vibes, resort attire or swimwear”. Plush towels will be provided for anyone who wants to ditch their floating recliner and just soak in the pool.

Tuesday 25 February – Baywatch (The Movie)
Tuesday 3 March – The Notebook
Tuesday 10 March – Cocktail
Tuesday 17 March – The Beach
Tuesday 24 March – Open Water
