As the new Doctor Who (Peter Capaldi) and his faithful companion Clara “The Impossible Girl” Oswald get ready to hit screens together for the first time*, they have embarked on a World Tour to promote the iconic BBC series’ much anticipated return. And today this tour has taken them to Sydney, following hysteria in Seoul, South Korea and the red carpet treatment in Cardiff and London.

The scene was slightly more subdued in Sydney, though those who got word of the pairs itinerary headed down to the Sydney Opera House this morning where the pair attended a media screening and Q&A of the film, ahead of a photo shoot and a day of press. This will see them land on The Project tonight, before hitting the stage at the State Theatre for the official “World Tour” public event, which will premiere the feature length season premiere, two weeks ahead of its screening on BBC in the UK and ABC in Australia.

These events mark the first time a current, active Doctor has stepped foot in Australia to promote the series. And hopefully not the last.

The first episode of series 8, titled “Deep Breath”, will screen in Australia at 7.40pm on Sunday, 24th August, with an early morning debut on the network’s digital iView platform, to ensure it’s online, commercial free, at the same time as its BBC Broadcast.

The World Tour continues onto New York next for an event on the 14th, then to Mexico City on the 17th and finishing up in Rio de Janiero on the 18th.
