The Ring franchise bounces back with Rings; watch the first trailer

The new trailer for upcoming horror film Rings has been revealed. Spanish director  F. Javier Gutiérrez will helm the film, who recently confirmed on his Twitter account that the title is a sequel not a prequel, making it the third installment of The Ring franchise.

The story is set to follow a young woman named Samara (Laura Wiggins) who learns that her boyfriend Holt (Alex Roe) has taken an interest in a dark popular subculture. Surrounding it is a mysterious video that, if you watch it, will kill you after seven days of viewing. Sound familiar? Not wanting her boyfriend to take that risk, she watches the video, sacrificing herself instead. Little did she know she would make such a horrifying discovery…

Rings is produced by Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald and its release follows the return of another popular horror franchise – Blair Witch – which will be released next month. Rings, meanwhile, will be released in November.

Rings will open in Australia on November 24th
