The Hunger Games Theme Park: coming to Atlanta, China, and Dubai

Fans of The Hunger Games have something to look forward to as they bid their final three-fingered salute to cinema-screens across the globe as Mockingjay, Part 2 comes to a conclusion Lionsgate, along with Dubai Parks and Resorts, have announced two upcoming rides that will open at Motiongate – soon to be the largest Hollywood-inspired theme park in the United Arab Emirates. Motiongate will bring visitors a conglomeration of attractions based on their favourite Sony, DreamWorks, and Lionsgate franchises (among others).

One ride will involve traveling over Panem via hovercraft, with guests treated to exclusive brand new footage shot just for the theme park. Daredevils can get their adrenaline rush from the second ride, a rollercoaster that will launch them from District 12 to the Capitol similar to the series’ bullet trains.

In addition to the rides at Motiongate, official Hunger Games attractions are in development in the U.S. (near Atlanta, expected to open 2019) and China (near Macau, expected to open 2018). The Atlanta park will contain an extra slice of nostalgia, as much of Catching Fire was filmed nearby.

This latest Hunger Games brand extension will deliver a re-creation of District 12, with visitors being able to check out real-life versions of Peeta’s bakery and the Hob black market, as well as costumed characters – get those autograph books ready.

A truly realistic experience (fights to the death, cornucopias of lethal weapons and ominous Peacekeepers) may not be on offer, but attractions that give visitors a taste of life in Panem without the violence will have to suffice.
