The director of In Bruges looks set to bring us the Black Comedy of the year with Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

Having already brought us one of the best black comedies of all time with In Bruges, and a memorable follow-up with Seven Psychopaths, it comes as little surprise that director Martin McDonagh has us excited about his new film, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. And with the release of the first red-band trailer for the film last week, we’re already convinced this will be one of the must see films for 2017.

No stranger to the Black Comedy genre, having won an Oscar for her role in the genre benchmark Fargo, the film stars the brilliant Frances McDormand, as a mother trying to find out who killed her daughter. Playing a character with little self-censorship, she goes to great lengths to get the police to do something about the murder, hiring out three billboards in her Missouri town to, essentially, shame the inaction of the local Police.

Make sure you watch the trailer all the way to the end – the last scene is particularly hilarious. The film also stars Woody Harrelson, Sam Rockwell , John Hawkes, Peter Dinklage, Aussie actress Abbie Cornish, Caleb Landry Jones, Kathryn Newton and Lucas Hedges.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri is due for release later in the year.
