If you’re a big fan of all things Australian cinema, get excited, as The Australian Shortfilm Creativity Awards (AUSSCA’s) are coming soon to a screen near you! Marketed as a ‘crowd-powered short film tournament’, the event is set to be distributed by AUSCEN (Australian Cinema & Television Network), and will be publicly exhibited in a number of bars, hotels, clubs and other venues. The AUSSCA’s were born when the organisers began brainstorming a way to both recognise and reward the creativity of Australia’s finest short filmmakers, as well as provide a way for fans to become the jury and cast their votes (which will be done via an App) for the films they believe to be the most creative, simultaneously around the country.

The tournament will consist of four quarter finals, with audience members at each of these events voting for their favourite films which will then face off in the grand final. The only way to vote is to purchase a ticket and get down to one of the venues hosting simultaneous screenings at venues across the country, with all profits from ticket sales going back to the pockets of the competing filmmakers.

The AUSSCA’s is an initiative being led by a small Melbourne based digital-media team, whose aim is to fuel the growth of Australian media and create greater growth in a sector that is constantly in competition with other film industries across the globe. As the nation’s first crowd-powered short film competition, The AUSSCA’s is a unique way to not only recognise the talent of burgeoning Australian filmmakers, but to also create new means of distribution and monetization which will see their careers flourish.

So what are you waiting for? Get involved with The AUSSCA’s today!
