SXSW: The Man in the High Castle pop-up bar and events announced by Amazon Prime Video

SXSW kicks off on Friday, and among the pile of events that are set to pop-up in Austin during the festival will be a special venue set up by Amazon Prime Video, who will theme the Market & Tap (319 Colorado Street) in Downtown Austin after a number of their series – including their most popular, The Man in the High Castle.

Inspired by the series, SXSW badge holders will be able to step back in time to WWII in the venue, with the room inspired by an underground rebel radio station in the form of the Resistance Radio Network. There’s going to be a website all about the fictitious network launching HERE shortly.

The Resistance Radio Headquarters, which will be located on the rooftop, will be open from 10am to 4pm from March 11th to 14th, and badge holders will be able to enjoy food and craft cocktails inspired by the “overarching theme of resistance”. Look out for the Rising Sun, Transmission Intercepted, The Flying Grasshopper, and the H Bomb.

Downstairs in the venue, the theme will change daily, with photo booths, a pop-up shop with themed customisable items, cocktails during the daytime, and live musical performances in the evening. The themes will change from day to day:

Saturday, March 11th – The untold story of The Grateful Dead will come to life as the space is transformed to recount the 30 year odyssey of The Grateful Dead. Long Strange Trip begins streaming in the Australian winter.

Sunday, March 12th – Amazon Prime Video will bring to life Playboy magazine’s charismatic founder, Hugh Hefner, and his impact on fighting against the status quo to shape popular culture and global history. American Playboy: The Hugh Hefner Story begins streaming this Australian Autumn.

Monday, March 13th – Amazon Prime Video will pay homage to the complicated life of US intelligence officer John Tavner, in Patriot – the show that recently launched to rave reviews. Guests will enjoy an evening of music with open mic style performances by popular indie acts like Matthew Vasquez and the Outskirts and very special performance by Patriot star Michael Dornan.

Tuesday, March 14th – (A special event at The Belmont, 305 W 6th St) A musical showcase by 30th Century will take place as an homage to The Man in the High Castle. Bands like Maybird, Big Search, and performers like Kelis, Sam Cohen, and Kevin Morby will take the stage at The Belmont. The Man in the High Castle is currently producing its third season – seasons one and two are now available to stream.
