Producer Brad Fuller talks Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows has just hit cinemas and in anticipation of its release, we sat down with one of the producers – Brad Fuller – to talk about the action packed sequel. Fuller, along with fellow producers Andrew Form, and Michael Bay and the writing team of Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec are the key crew behind the TMNT series and all returned for Out of the Shadows.

Sporting our very own Donatello mask (Donnie brings the smarts!) we quizzed Brad about the new movie and what some of the important aspects of what they wanted to bring for the sequel as well as who his favourite Ninja Turtle is.

After seeing this film, our first impressions were that this was a big improvement on the initial live action adaptation that was released in 2014. The most noticeable change being that this film is a lot of fun, upping the ante on the action as well as capturing a lot more of the essence of the comics.

Fuller admits that the whole team felt it was important to address what the fans were asking for and that was one of the driving factors for all the new characters such as Casey Jones, Bebop, Rocksteady and Krang. It’s also why, in this film, we get to see a lot more of the character development for each of the Turtles as they really are at the forefront of this film.

Unsurprisingly, in a movie that is heavily reliant upon VFX work, Fuller reveals that the most challenging aspect was ensuring the work was completed in time for release. But it’s no surprise that when you’re working with explosive action heavy-weight Michael Bay that some of the action sequences that feature in the film were also his favourite scenes to work on.

Fuller goes on to reveal that, dependent on how well this film performs in cinemas, that will dictate whether a third movie gets made… but considering how much fun we had with this, we’re feeling pretty confident that we’ll be seeing more of our masked Ninja Turtles again soon enough.
