New movie for Travis Fimmel; Aussie actor to star in All Quiet On The Western Front

Travis Fimmel (Vikings, Warcraft ) will star in a new adaptation of All Quiet on the Western Front, an anti-war film to be directed by Roger Donaldson (Smash Palace, The November Man).

ScreenDaily broke the news that the Australian actor will play Captain Katczinsky in the film about four young German soldiers at the end of World War I. Based on the 1929 German novel by Erich Maria Remarque, a film adaptation in 1930 saw it win two Oscars.

When announcing Fimmel would be starring in the movie, Corsan World Sales CEO Paul Breuls had high praise for the Vikings actor: “Travis Fimmel is one of the most exciting and dynamic young actors working today,” he said.

As we predicted, 2016 is going be massive for the Aussie actor, who hails from country Victoria. Season four of the hit historical drama Vikings premieres in the US on the History Channel next week, and in Australia on SBS February 24. Fimmel has garnered international praise for his role in the series as the curious and ruthless Norse legend Ragnar Lothbrok.

Fimmel also made his first appearance at the Sundance Film Festival last month to promote his upcoming Rebecca Miller film, Maggie’s Plan, in which he co-stars alongside Greta Gerwig. The film also stars Ethan Hawke and Oscar winner Julianne Moore and is scheduled for release in the US this May.

But the biggest event on Fimmel’s calendar this year will be the release of the fantasy epic Warcraft, based on the phenomenally popular role-playing game by Blizzard Entertainment, World of Warcraft. The $100 million-plus Legendary/Universal Pictures film, directed by Duncan Jones (Moon), hits theatres in Australia June 16.
