Netflix receives worldwide rights to stream American Crime Story

Cable’s most watched new TV series of 2016, The People v. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story, will come to Netflix in 2017. The series will be available globally (excluding Canada) and will stream all new seasons in the hit American Crime Story TV series. The announcement is the first global agreement between Netflix and 20th Century Fox, who air the series on their cable network FX.

“We’re excited to evolve our relationship with FOX and to bring their lauded content to our members around the world… Given the popularity of the first season of American Crime Story, we are thrilled to offer this acclaimed drama series to our members,” said Sean Carey (Vice President of Global Television).

“We’re extremely pleased to continue our relationship with Netflix on this ground-breaking deal… We are very proud of the first instalment of this franchise, The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, which has received extraordinary critical acclaim and perfectly captured the cultural Zeitgeist”, said Gina Brogi (EVP Worldwide Pay TV and SVOD, Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution).

The People v. OJ Simpson received 22 Emmy nominations for the 10-episode season, featuring John Travolta as Robert Shapiro, Cuba Gooding Jr. as OJ Simpson, Sarah Paulson as Marcia Clark, and David Schwimmer as Robert Kardashian. This season delved in to the OJ Simpson trial and showed the tumultuous relationship between the LAPD and the African-American community.
