Mad Max: Fury Road and Peter Allen: Not The Boy Next Door Win Big at AACTA

The fifth annual Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards (AACTA) were presented last night at Sydney’s Star Event Centre, the awards recognising the last 12 months in Australian film. George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road took out the top award for Best Film, George Miller receiving the award for Best Director.

The Dressmaker dominated the acting awards, Kate Winslet receiving Best Lead Actress, Best Supporting Actress went to Judy Davis and Hugo Weaving won Best Supporting Actor. Michael Caton took out Best Lead Actor for his work in Last Cab To Darwin.

Two-part miniseries Peter Allen: Not The Boy Next Door won the most television awards, including Best Supporting Actress in a Television Drama for Sigrid Thornton, Best Lead Actor in a Television Drama for Joel Jackson, Best Supporting Actor in a Television Drama for Ky Baldwin, and Best Telefeature or Miniseries.
