James McAvoy, John Boyega and Nicholas Hoult join Watership Down adaptation

Netflix and the BBC have teamed up to produce a four-part miniseries adapting Richard Adam‘s novel and childhood heart-breaker, Watership Down.

The star-studded voice cast for the animated series includes John Boyega, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, Gemma Arterton and Ben Kingsley.

Watership Down was originally published in 1972 and follows a band of rabbits as they search for a new home after Fiver (Hoult), receives a frightening vision of their warren’s imminent destruction. When Fiver and his brother Hazel (McAvoy) fail to convince their leader of the need to evacuate, they set out with a small band of eleven rabbits to search for a new home, facing threats from predator and prey alike as they search for a utopian society.

The BBC-Netflix collaboration is penned by Tom Bidwell and directed by Noam Murro.

The miniseries will be distributed by BBC in the UK and Netflix internationally.
