Interview: Elden Henson talks Marvel’s Daredevil and the nostalgia of The Mighty Ducks

There are some actors that have the good fortune of traversing the generations through the medium of pop culture. One of those actors, Elden Henson, has been lucky enough to star in some major franchises as a fan favourite character spanning decades. Recently out in Australia for Oz Comic Con Melbourne 2017, we sat down in a round-table interview to talk to Henson about three of his most iconic roles.

With this year being the 25th anniversary since the first Mighty Ducks film was released it was a perfect time to query the actor on his stint in the Disney trilogy. Henson played the charming ice hockey player with the powerful puck shot Fulton Reed. Reed’s character went on to becoming half of the hilarious Bash Brothers duo with Dean Portman (Aaron Lohr) and they were considered fan favourites due to their rough-housing and brotherly bonds. This being Henson’s first visit to Australia we kicked things off with a brief ice breaker before launching into asking him about the nostalgia trip that was his time working on The Mighty Ducks films.

Henson has been lucky enough to play a character in another franchise about underdog heroes, this time in The Hunger Games. The character Pollux is classed as an Avox, a mute due to having his tongue cut out for rebelling against The Capitol and made to work beneath in the underground passages and sewers. It’s his knowledge of these passages that assists Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and her band of rebels to break into President Snow’s (Donald Sutherland) mansion.

Henson has most recently been seen in the Netflix series Marvel’s Daredevil as Franklin “Foggy” Nelson, best friend and lawyer partner to the lead character of Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox). In the series he provides a strong moral compass for Murdock and on occasion the comic relief but also an integral player in the character dynamics, particularly with Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll). Even though due to embargo reasons we were unable to discuss Foggy Nelson’s role in the forthcoming series Marvel’s The Defenders we did manage to quiz him on his work in Daredevil.

Marvel’s The Defenders will be available to stream all 8 episodes on 18 August 2017 through Netflix Australia.
