Game of Thrones star Hannah Murray joins Kathryn Bigelow’s untitled Detroit riot drama

Kathryn Bigelow, director of Zero Dark Thirty and The Hurt Locker, is turning her attention to the historic Detriot Riots, with English Actress Hannah Murray (Skins, Game of Thrones) in talks to play a key role in the untitled true crime drama.

Though few details are known about the plot, and details of Murray’s specific role are yet to be revealed, the film is set against the backdrop of the devastating 1967 riots which took place over five days in Detroit, Michigan.

Bigelow will direct a script by Oscar-Winner Mark Boal. The Wrap reports Boal’s script will explore themes unpacking the systematic racism in urban Detroit.

Production is expected to begin this summer, with a 2017 release in time to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the riots.
