Five things you need to watch on the new Apple TV+

Over 100 countries now have access to Apple’s substantial move on the increasingly competitive streaming service scene. Apple TV+, which officially launched on November 2nd, is seeking to expand the Apple ecosystem and focus on original stories across TV and film.

In Australia, the price is being kept fairly low at $7.99 (inc GST) per month, but anyone can test it out beforehand for free with a 7-day trail. Up to six family members can share on one subscription, which allows for a further 6 simultaneous streams. Notably, anyone who purchases a new Apple device is eligible for 1 year free of Apple TV+.

With so many options for SVOD services out right now, it’s crucial for Apple that their originals line up is strong. Thankfully, shows with big names like Reese Witherspoon, Steve Carrell, Jason Momoa, Octavia Spencer and Aaron Paul make this an easy choice. See below for our top picks of what to watch on Apple TV+

Morning Wars

Perhaps the biggest Original on Apple’s launch line up is this “cutthroat drama” executive produced by Reese Witherspoon who also plays a lead alongside Jennifer Anniston and Steve Carrell. The show will start with a 10-episode season, where new episodes will roll out on the platform on a weekly basis.

The plot follows the world of morning news and the ego, ambition and the misguided search for power behind the people who help American wake up in the morning.

See

Jason Moma and Alfre Woodard lead this epic, which is set 600 years in the future after a virus has wiped out humankind and rendered the remaining population blind. The first three episodes of the show are already on the Apple TV+ platform, and every subsequent episode will roll out on a weekly basis, for a total of 8 episodes.

Dickinson

Hailee Steinfeld stars as Emily Dickinson, the titular character in this coming-of-age piece that will examine society, gender and family through the lens of this rebellious young poet. It’s already getting excellent reviews across the board, and looks to be one the platform’s early hits. All 10 episodes of the first season are now available.

The Banker

An original feature film based the true story of two African American entrepreneurs who try and navigate the racial limitations of the 1950s to provide housing loans to the African American community. Set during the Jim Crow era in Texas, the film stars Anthony Mackie and Samuel L Jackson, along with Nicholas Hoult and Nia Long.

Servant

M. Night Shyamalan comes off the completion of his dark superhero trilogy to bring a psychological thriller to Apple TV+, tracking a Philly couple in mourning after a tragedy creates a gift in their marriage. It’s looking like this one will feature plenty of supernatural happenings, as a “mysterious force” enters the couples lives and no doubt wreaks havoc. The film will premiere later this month, on 28th November.
