First trailer for The Happytime Murders is not the Muppets movie you’re expecting

The Muppets are back! But not in the way you would expect. We recommend putting the kids to bed, because this isn’t the Muppets movie you were expecting.

The Happytime Murders markets itself as a filthy comedy set in the criminal underworld of Los Angeles where both puppets and humans coexist. When two detectives are forced to work together on case to solve a string of brutal murders, they might just find a way to form the ultimate partnership. If they don’t kill each other first. The trailer boasts a violent and raunchy style of comedy that is unprecedented for a Muppet film. You can check it out for yourself in the trailer below:

Starring Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids, Spy), The Happytime Murders is based on an original story by Todd Berger (It’s a Disaster) and Dee Robertson (Donnie Darko), with Brian Henson (The Muppet Christmas Carol, Muppet Treasure Island) serving as director.

The Happytime Murders is set to release in theatres 6 September, 2018.
