Exclusive Interview: O’Shea Jackson, Jr talks portraying his father in Straight Outta Compton

Straight Outta Compton is fresh of a huge three-week dominance in the U.S Box Office, holding onto the number 1 position despite some strong competition. The N.W.A biopic, which currently has a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, has finally made it’s way down to Australia and at the Sydney premiere we caught up with O’Shea Jackson, Jr, son of Ice Cube, who portrays his father in the film.

“This all started because I couldn’t sit in a theatre and see somebody portray him and me not thinking it’s up to par…I had to make sure the ball was in my hands to cement my family’s legacy in cinema forever”, O’Shea tells us when talking about being the only cast member portraying his father in the film.

When asked about juggling music and film, O’Shea announces that he has left behind the OMG (Oh My Goodness) stage name and any future releases will now be under his birth name.
