To celebrate the shiny, sparkly, glittery special DVD release of Broad City Season 1 we decided to revisit the dynamic duo known as Abbi and Ilana. From their interesting methods of transporting drugs to trying to deal your taxes, this show deals with what every 20-something is truly thinking.
The DVD gives you all kinds of little goodies. Besides the whole season we also get a peak into other extras like outtakes of Garol in the warehouse to DVD commentary from yours sincerely, Abbi and Ilana. Spoiler alert, the actor Arturo Castro who plays Jaime Castro does not actually have an accent.
We decided to look back at some of Abbi and Ilana’s schemes, and how many of them you may have done but might not ever admit to? Or maybe you would because part of you is proud of what you did, and the fact that Broad City acknowledges it.
This is where we find out if you’re an Abbi or an Ilana. Let’s start off easy, I’m sure many of us have broken a tooth on a jawbreaker. If you’re a bit of an Ilana you may have made the rookie error of destroying your tooth on a child’s candy. Or perhaps you’re more of an Abbi and you’ve tried to smoke too much pot in one hit only to realize you still need supervision.
However, a really big milestone is when you carry pot wrapped up and kept inside your vagina (pronounced va-hyien-nah if you’re Ilana). You may not admit to this one but I’m sure some of our readers are out there nodding quietly to themselves. The strange part is all of these achievements come from just one of the episodes in Season 1.
The difference between Broad City and most other TV series that follow the “two girls in the big city” trope is that Broad City celebrates all the terrible things we do as well as the good. The seeminginly unimportant activities that become big memories with our best friend are the fabric of this show. Like pushing yourself to the edge of a seafood allergy because regardless of your body’s shortcomings you still think seafood is freakin’ delicious. All the Ilanas in the world are nodding to this I’m sure.
Perhaps you work a terrible, terrible job and you hope that if you keep slogging through it one day they will promote you to some set of tasks that resemble some kind of meaningfulness to you. Please take a moment of silence for all the Abbis in this very same situation.
Whether you’re an Abbi or an Ilana, or any of the hilarious cast in this series – you’ll love reliving these revelations in the DVD release of Broad City. Season 3 is scheduled for February 23rd, next year. So until then the DVD will have to satiate your Broad City cravings.
