Disney is working on a live-action prequel to 1992 classic Aladdin

Well this should be interesting. Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that animation giants Disney are working on a live-action comedy prequel to their 1992 classic Aladdin. Titled Genies the film will be produced by Tripp Vinson (exec producer of San Andreas) with a script written by Damien Shannon and Mark Swift (the writers behind…Freddy VS Jason and the Friday the 13th reboot).

Genies is said to focus on a, well, genie, and how he ended up being trapped in Aladdin’s lamp in the first place. It may be but one in a series of live-action films inspired by Disney’s animated classics, with live-action versions of Pinocchio, Dumbo, and Winnie the Pooh also rumoured to be seeing the light of day.

Though Genies is in the very, very early stages, Hollywood Reporter indicates that plans are to first release this live-action and hopefully follow it up with a live-action re-make of Aladdin.

While you’re here, you should sing a long to “A Whole New World”. You know you want to.
