Australian Box Office Report: Wonder Woman tops the charts again with a higher per-screen average

Wonder Woman took the top spot at the box office for the second week in a row, earning $5.70m.  Its screen average was $13,589, up more than $2k per screen from its opening weekend – something almost unheard of for “blockbuster” film; a testament to the incredible buzz around the film. Don’t expect it to fall too far off the top end of the list anytime soon.

In its premiere week, Tom Cruise’s reboot of The Mummy performed well, taking in $4.64m.  Although it did not do as well internationally, it opened in 471 screens in Australia and managed a screen average of close to $10k – much better than it did in the USA.

The Mummy‘s success meant that last week’s no. 2, Baywatch, now sits at no. 3 this week.  It earned  $2.18m in its second week in theatres and is on the way to making close to $8m by next week’s box office report.

Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales dropped one place this week from no. 3 to no. 4, earning $1.54m in its 3rd week in cinemas.  It has made $12.33m to date, and will most likely stay in the top ten for a few weeks.

It’s not all superheroes and pirates at the movies, though. Premiering this week in 5th spot is moody drama My Cousin Rachel, starring Rachel Weisz and Iain Glen.  Adapted from Daphne Du Maurier novel of the same name, it made $414k.

This means that last week’s no. 5, King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword, has dropped to no. 9 this week, earning $203k. Surprisingly, Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2 is still hanging in the top 10, this week dropping from no. 4 to no. 6, and earning $401k.  Expect it to stay in the top 10 for a few more weeks yet…

This weekend sees the releases of the anticipated animation Despicable Me 3, the Scarlett Johansson led comedy Rough Night and the Tupac Shakur biopic All Eyez On Me, sure to please hip hop fans.
