Australian Box Office Report: The King of the Jungle outplays The Boss

Hello Folks,

We have a new #1.

Outscoring The Huntsman Winter’s War in first place is The Jungle Book. Hitting the $290 million mark  around the globe, critics are responding very well to the film. Stellar casting and visually impressive landscapes have put Disney on top again.

As for Melissa McCarthy’s The Boss, well, that came in at second place with a much smaller $2.1 million. I would really like to see McCarthy reach for that top spot, but like always, we’ll have to wait and see.

There were some other movers and shakers. The new Divergent Series: Allegiant has taken third place while The Huntsman Winter’s War has dropped to fifth. Below that is Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, whom I’m a little scared for when Captain American and Iron Man show up later this month.

Here’s the ladder:

This week, marks some independent releases- I’m very excited for Jeff Nichols‘ Midnight Special and equally the Melbournia film Pawno, a character driven piece set in the suburbs of Footscary.  We’ve also got Hugh Jackman as a drunken snowgroomer in Eddie the Eagle and the French comedy Marguerite – both should be a blast!
