It’s an international affair as English actor Will Poulter (The Revenant, The Maze Runner), Aussie actor Ben O’Toole (The Water Diviner), and Irish actor Jack Reynor (Sing Street) have been announced to join John Boyega (The Force Awakens) in Kathryn Bigelow’s upcoming film regarding the 1967 Detroit Riots. The news was first reported earlier this week, exclusively by Variety.
This historical crime-drama focuses on the five unforgettable summer days when the distressing riots occurred in Detroit during 1967.
Annapurna Pictures will be financing the film, with no studio announced just yet. However, it has been confirmed that Bigelow will be directing, with Mark Boal writing the script and Greg Sharpio being executive producer.
While character descriptions haven’t been discussed, it can be expected that Poulter, O’Toole and Reynor will be more likely to have the most screen time despite the film being an ensemble piece.
The film is still very much in its early stages, however, the producers are aiming for a release in 2017, on the 50th anniversary of the Detroit Riots.
