Good news, horror fans. The rumour mill has been thrown back into overdrive with 28 Days Later writer and Ex Machina director Alex Garland recently revealing that he has written a story for the film’s long-awaited new installment, 28 Months Later. Dropping the little news nugget while promoting Ex Machina, Garland says that while his involvement in the horror series will be minimal, he has written a story for the film that will be used as its framework.

Having not been involved in the  sequel 28 Weeks Later, Garland’s return to the franchise is no doubt going to get fans hyped, especially off the back of the success of Ex Machina which of course displayed his talents as director as well as writer. Andrew MacDonald, producer of both 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later is back on board for this new film. He says of his involvement in 28 Months Later:

“About two years ago, Danny [Boyle] started collaborating on the potential to make Trainspotting 2. In that conversation, an idea for  28 Months arrived. I had a funny idea. I had a sort of weird idea that popped into my head. Partly because of a trip I’d taken. I had this thought, and I suggested it to Andrew and Danny, but I also said I don’t want to work on it. I don’t want to play a role and Andrew said, ‘Leave it to me’. So he’s gone off and is working on it.”
