The Australian Film Television and Radio School has announced a partnership with Virgin Australia that will see its aircraft screens adorned with the best short films to come out of the school.

The initiative will take the title, the ‘Best of the Fest’ program and will feature a selection of AFTRS films that have screened at international film festivals, to be curated quarterly.

Virgin Australia Chief Customer Officer Mark Hassell was excited about the proposal, saying, “Australia’s up-and-coming filmmakers are winning plaudits around the world, and we are excited about the opportunity to showcase their talent on board our aircraft.”

The AFTRS CEO, Neil Peplow, also joined in on the excitement, stating that “this is a fantastic avenue to showcase Australia’s emerging filmmakers to new audiences. Virgin Australia is a strong advocate for the arts which makes the airline a perfect fit for the school.”

The short films to be played aboard the aircrafts will include The Kangaroo Guy from Joel Loxton (winner of the Jury Award (International Student Category) at the Montreal World Film Festival) All God’s Creatures by Brendon McDonall (winner of the Best Short Film (Nicholas Baudin Prize) at Recontres Internationales du Cinéma des Antipodes in Saint-Tropez last year).

To be joined by Stuffed from Warwick Young (awarded Best Foreign Film at the Beverly Hills Film Festival 2016) Embrace George-Alex Nagle (screened at Sydney Film Festival) and Foal Vanessa Gazy (nominated for three awards at the 2016 St. Kilda Film Festival including Best Achievement in Editing, the Craft Award and Best Young Actor (Lola Bennett)).
