Victoria’s Mitchelton Winery opens luxury on-site hotel and spa

Located in the Victorian countryside near Nagambie is the recently opened Mitchelton Hotel and Spa, a new luxury accommodation option that has resulted from a $16 million addition to the sprawling Mitchelton Winery Estate. A personal project of Gerry Ryan and his son Andrew, the hotel is now set up along the banks of the Goulburn River, mirroring plans which date all the way back to when the property was founded in 1969.

The family partnered with internationally renowned architecture and interior design firm Hecker Guthrie to stay consistent with the property’s existing Robin Boyd structures while also channelling the rural surrounds and wine production that defines the area, which is just a 90 minute drive out of Melbourne.

Commissioned works from Melbourne photographer Trevor Mein are displayed throughout the hotel, which also draws much of its design inspiration from the horse studs lined around Nagambie.

“The Hotel and Day Spa is something that we wanted to develop early on with our acquisition of the state”, offered Andrew. “It has always been the missing piece of the puzzle for Mitchelton. Goulburn Valley and Nagambie have so much to offer, we have high hopes that the addition of the accommodation facility will help attract more visitors to the region and boost local tourism”.

Guest rooms feature floor to ceiling windows which open onto private terraces, boasting expansive views of the Goulburn River or Mitchelton Vineyard. The living space is being designed as warm and soft, with use of linen curtains, timber joinery, and artworks from Mein and David Band. Elsewhere, the spa part of the property makes full use of its extensive views, offering guests a regionally inspired spa experience developed using Australian natural skincare product line Uspa. Also featured is a 20 metre infinity pool lying on the banks of the river on a terrace landscaped by Jamie Clapham.

Anyone planning to stay at the new luxury getaway should also be well taken care of when it comes to dining. Executive Chef Jess Hayes leads the kitchen at Mitchelton’s on-site restaurant Muse, with a penchant for expressing international trends with local produce. And we all know how wonderfully diverse regional dining in Australia can be.

Opening special room rates for the Mitchelton Hotel start at $289 per night including
breakfast for two and a winery tour.
