Uber launch their “UberEATS” restaurant delivery service in Sydney

Announced today, Uber’s popular crowd-sourced food delivery service, UberEATS, has finally made its way on over to Sydney after recently making its Australian debut in Melbourne. The on-demand meal delivery service from Uber has been a major player in the industry around the globe since making an impact in various U.S and European cities last year, partnering up with top restaurants, cafes, and diners in each city to deliver users food at the tap of a button on their smartphone.

As it turns out, the recent return Uber Ice Cream was really just a prelude to a much bigger, much more permanent play from Uber as they enter a food delivery market which is already beginning to look overcrowded. As has been the case in other cities though, Uber appear to have a unique point of difference (being that it’s already a very well established car service, for one) that place them as tough competitors to the likes of Deliveroo and Foodora; already UberEATS have welcomed aboard around 100 of Sydney’s best and most beloved restaurants as partners, offering up their menus to Uber users who can order quickly and conveniently through the standalone UberEATS Smartphone – iOS and Android – app (more details on how to order below).

Hatted restaurants like Saké and Three Blue Ducks will be options from today, as will undeniable favourites like Love Supreme, Salt Meats Cheese, Fratelli Fresh, Butter, and Thievery. All of these (full list below) will be available seven days a week from 11am to 10pm through the app, delivered throughout Sydney’s most populated inner suburbs (Bondi, Surry Hills, Pyrmont, Newtown, and more).

Some of our personal picks on the list include Darlinghurst’s Guilty, Surry Hills’ Juicy Lucy, Rushcutters Bay gem Popolo, experimental Woollahra sushi train Sushi With a Twist, Glebe’s Bombay Street Kitchen, modern cafe Kansas City Shuffle, and cosy Potts Point fav Delhi by the Way. Oh and we absolutely cannot forget long-standing Newtown favouite Dean’s Diner.

“Today we’re super excited to be bringing Sydneysiders their favourite restaurants directly to their door, with the launch of the UberEATS app in Sydney”, said GM of Uber Australia and New Zealand David Rohrsheim. “UberEATS will enable us to help more people access the city’s great food from top restaurants in their suburb and beyond”.

The launch of this service also means that listed restaurants will have a reliable and reputable delivery option to help expand their reach across Sydney, making their menus much more accessible outside of their respective venues, presenting very much a win-win situation that has been steadily gaining huge traction in Melbourne. What’s more is that, for launch, Uber have made delivery free for a limited time.

“Partnering with UberEATS opens up exciting new business opportunities for Saké Restaurant & Bar and our expanding group of Fratelli Fresh restaurants,” said Thomas Pash, CEO of Urban Purveyor Group. “It will grow our reach and broaden our customer base to people from all walks of life and as a result we expect the long term business impact to be substantial.”

Indeed it looks like as the heavily curated pool of restaurants continues to grow, UberEATS will see a significant change in the standards we expect from dine-in eats, made even more exciting with the possibility of some of these restaurants creating exclusive specials for the platform. Says Darren Roberston of Three Blue Ducks: “We’re super excited to be working with UberEATS. It’ll open up Three Blue Ducks to another exciting dining platform, allowing everyone to enjoy our food wherever they fancy. We’ll also be creating new dishes and some one-off specials just for UberEATS, designed specifically for take away”.

Ordering from the UberEATS app is straight forward:

1. Sign up or sign in using your Uber account (or create a new one).
2. Tell Uber where to deliver to (enter address).
3. Browse local restaurants (full list below) and make a selection.
4. Pay with your card just as you would for Uber’s car service.
5. Track the order via the in-app GPS.
