Just in time for the very anticipated Commonwealth Games, The Star Gold Coast has officially begun the launch of their new luxury suite hotel The Darling, kicking off with an unsurprisingly lavish launch night earlier this month. Located at the front of the long-standing Broadbeach Island property, The Darling is the crown jewel of a very expensive transformation that began in 2014, breathing new life into the bright and vibrant property, first with multi award-winning Japanese restaurant Kiyomi and then with several other modern dining options.
Though it connects to The Star Grand, The Darling will function as a stand-alone hotel with 57 large suites, shaped by renowned architects Steelman Partners, DBI Design and Probuild with boutique design and an eclectic approach. To give you an idea of just how spacious these suites will be: each level will feature only seven suites each, beginning with 22 base rooms, the Jewel suites, and 21 much larger Stellar Suites. A further 14 suites have been reserved for the higher-than-high-end experience, spanning four Penthouse Suites, three Penthouse Spa Suites, and seven Penthouse Deluxe Suites which feature their own private billiard, media or exercise rooms.

The hotel’s lobby should easily let guests know just what kind of experience there’ in for. The space includes a grand 750kg chandelier, specially curated artwork depicting coastal scenes, and a central water feature of hundreds of glass beads resembling the elegance of a jellyfish, surrounded by the lobby’s hues of teal, purple and gold. It’s grand, to say the very least.
Though the biggest news for both locals and guests is the addition of the property’s lush rooftop restaurant and bar, Nineteen at The Star, which should easily be buzzing all throughout the Commonwealth Games, especially with the far-reaching beach and city skyline views coupled with an infinity pool extending five metres beyond the side of the tower.
The Darling doesn’t mark the end of The Star’s big redevelopment though. The Star Residences, a 53-storey mixed-use residential apartment and hotel tower on Broadbeach Island, should be the next big opening and pending successful plans, it could be one of up to five planned for the precinct in the future.
The Darling will open exclusively for Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games representatives and stakeholders during and in the lead up to the event before welcoming its first public guests from mid-April.
