Sydney’s Italian Wine and Food festival announces 2016 program

Sydneysiders are gearing up for the epic return of the Italian Wine and Food Festival which takes place at Sydney Town Hall on Sunday 21st August for 10 hours of the best the city has to offer, from chefs and restaurants, to providores and wine distributors. Rows of stalls and cooking demonstrations are set up in the spacious depths of lower Town Hall each year, showcasing pretty much every aspect of Italian food and wine you can think of, including wines from each region and some of the city’s top chefs. Those heading along this year can expect everything from Negroni Doughnuts and Campari Lemon Tarts to Wine Workshops and a dedicated Negroni Bar.

Gourmet Traveller have set up a Food Market brimming with salumi, cheese, pasta, coffee, olive oil, bread, fruit, vegetables, truffles, gelato, and sweets, standing along with stalls from the likes of Salt Meats Cheese – who are offering said Negroni Doughnuts and hosting a mini cooking school.

Sydney’s top Italian chefs will be each taking the main stage throughout the day with cooking demonstrations and authentic Italian food offered out from the Chefs Kitchens. Guests this year include Giovvani Pilu (Pilu at Freshwater), Frederico Zanellato (LuMi), Adam Swanson (Lot 1 Sydney), and Richard Ptacnik (Otto). Other restaurants represented include Popolo, Zambo, Aperitivo, and Capriccio.

Wine will once again be a big draw card with over 200+ Italian wines exhibited region by region, bringing in winemakers and importers to help people dive into a journey through the grape varieties of Italy. Wine showcases are complemented by Wine Masterclasses presented by Gourmet Traveller WINE, curated by the festival, and hosted by renowned wine writer Mike Bennie. Sommelier Matt Dunne of Aria will also be involved by hosting a Plumm Italian Wine workshop for beginners.
