Urban Purveyor Group are expanding their multi award-winning Saké brand in a big way this year, as Melbourne is set to get not one, but two new venues that fall under the renowned contemporary Japanese restaurant, first with Saké Restaurant & Bar in Flinders Lane, and then with new concept, fast-fine venue Saké Jr launching on Bourke Street.

Saké Restaurant & Bar is being described as a super-luxe, high-energy addition to the brand’s portfolio, the fifth Saké in Australia. The new venture will be launching in April in the much-coveted Flinders Lane with a menu National Saké Brand Culinary Director Stephane Chevet says is an innovative and playful twist to the brand’s signature style, focusing on Victoria’s local produce and ingredients to create dishes like the Nihon Braised Wagyu Short Ribs with seared foie gras, asparagus, and caramelised onion, the Slow Cooked Abalone with garlic lemon soy and taro crunch, the Southern Rock Lobster Sashimi with ito togarashi, hijiki, and ume neri glaze, and the Himalayan Salt-Chilled Seared Snapper with karazumi, lemon, oil, and dry soy.

Live entertainers, a dramatic, interactive counter combining a sushi bar and robatayaki grill, a natural Japanese stone bar, and some other surprises revealed closer to the opening date will be featured at the new two-storey restaurant, with a design which has been handled by Melissa Collison Design, the same team behind the ultra lush Saké Double Bay in Sydney.

Urban Purveyor Group have said that the bar will stock Melbourne’s largest selection of saké, shochu, Japanese whiskies and micro-brewed Japanese beers, and considering the selection available at the Sydney venues we’re not doubting the claim.

Following the April opening of Saké Restaurant & Bar, the brand will be launching a new concept titled Saké Jr., located at 555 Bourke Street, in May. It will be a more casual Saké with features including create-your-own bowls, buns, and rolls along with grab-and-go version of Saké’s signature menu items.
