Saké Jr to open at Grosvenor Place by giving away 500 free DIY bowls (Sydney)

Saké Restaurant & Bar fast-casual spin-off is rapidly expanding, spreading her little wings to now include a third location within just three months of launching, this time opening up at Grosvenor Place’s piazza on the northern end of Sydney’s CBD. The expansion is part of a much larger plan from Urban Purveyor Group who have announced that they hope to have 100 Saké Jr diners around Australian within the next five years, a part of their casual dining spin-offs that have also seen Fratelli Fresh evolve into Fratelli Famous and Bavarian Bier Cafe extend to The Bavarian.

The function of Saké Jr is quite straight forward, leaning on the do-it-yourself trend that’s sweeping the country right now. The Korean-Japanese inspired concept is all about fully customisable, healthy, colourful bowls packed with flavour where customers build their own with a base of either sushi rice, brown rice, noodles, salad or bao buns and then choose from a very large selection of toppings, including veggies, proteins, sauces and condiments.

So far it’s proven a hit, with Saké Jr’s first two locations – Westfield Sydney and 555 Bourke Street in Melbourne – moving over 1000 of these $15 bowls each day, justifying the claims of a cult-like following. It’s also been particularly successful with the shift to healthier eating, maintaining an open philosophy that includes numerous vegan and gluten-free ingredients so customers are able to mix and match to manager their own individual dietary requirements.

The menu at each store also features quick-serve items like miso and kimchip soups, sushi rolls, salads, dumplings, gyoza, and fusion inspired desserts like chocolate-dipped strawberry shuriken ice cream sandwiches. Drinks featured includes cold press juices, healthy smoothies, Bonacci coffee, T2 teas, and organic kombucha, draught craft beers pumped out by Urban Craft Brewing Co., house wines on tap, and saké by the glass.

Not enough for you? They’re also pushing a breakfast menu from 7:30am daily at the Grosvenor Place venue, offering $9 DIY breakfast bowls with options include scrambled eggs, Japanese hash browns, edamame, fried rice, crispy pork belly, tofu, and more right alongside options like Japanese acai bowls and berry & yuzu muesli. Bacon and egg baos and fresh-blended smoothies round out the menu.

As with their previous openings, Saké Jr Grosvenor Place will head full steam into their new location by offering 500 fee bowls to the first customers in line from 11am on Thursday 4th November, just make sure you’re liking and following them on social media. The first 2500 customers will also receive a bright Saké Jr reusable bag.
