Stepping into Puri Tempo Doeloe felt like entering a different world – a quiet, beautiful retreat tucked away in the heart of Sanur, Bali. This isn’t just any hotel. It’s a place that feels more like a hidden treasure. A space that makes you slow down, take a deep breath, and enjoy being in the moment.
The hotel has a vintage vibe, with each of the 18 rooms designed to feel unique and full of character, with each freestanding building painted a beautiful pastel hue. My Deluxe Cottage made me feel like I was holidaying on a tropical Greek island. The white wood accents and the stunning bathroom tiles all came together to create a space that felt very Mediterranean yet still classically Balinese. It was the perfect blend of style and comfort, and it instantly made me feel at home.
The private terrace attached to my cottage was one of my favourite spots. I spent hours there, reading my book and watching the world go by in that peaceful, secluded corner. It was quiet, calming, and the perfect place to perch.
While the beach isn’t just a quick stroll away, it’s still within easy reach – about a 25-minute walk from the hotel. I’m a big walker, so I loved exploring and finding little gems along the way. However, if you’re not in the mood to walk, Gojek and Grab are both easily available and can take you wherever you want to go in no time.
There’s really no reason to leave, though, as you’ll find the Pendopo Puri Restaurant on-site, where the chefs will go above and beyond to cook you exactly what you want. Big shoutout to Chef Adi for his extra effort in ensuring the meals catered to my dietary needs. And to Bulan for her impeccable service throughout my stay.
You’ll also find a beautiful pool where I’d lounge on the cabana for hours sipping coconuts in the sun. There’s a café out the front and a spa and coworking space on-site should you want a relaxing massage or a quiet place to work, and just around the back of the hotel, there are some local warungs to explore.
I was honestly so surprised to learn of Puri Tempo Doeloe. I must have driven down the busy Jl. Bypass Ngurah Rai a million times but never even stopped to consider that such a tranquil space could exist next to such a busy road!
However, once you’re inside, the sound of traffic fades away, and you’re immediately at ease and ready to embrace the quieter moments. This spot is a true gem in Sanur, and I’m almost hesitant to share its location with the world. But everyone deserves the opportunity to truly unwind.
