Melbourne’s Gardens by Twilight is the best looking night picnic event of the year

Well this one is sure looking like a winner. Next month, as part of the 21st Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show (MIFGS), the city’s picturesque Carlton Gardens will play host to the show’s very first “Gardens by Twilight”, a hungry blend of fire acts, glow performances, street buskers, music, food, and drink set in a space designed to impress. The show, which runs over four days in March, will be transforming the city into a horticultural wonderland with a series of events, with this night-time extravaganza being one of the most exciting.

A whole roster of international and local landscape and floristry talent have come on board for the full event which will spread events across the heritage listed Royal Exhibition Building and Carlton Gardens. Many will be involved in building the Gardens by Twilight event, assisted by range of entertainers, musicians, and food and drink outlets.

Gardens by Twilight will be an accessible opportunity for all to experience the show on Friday 18th March from 6pm to 9:30pm, bringing in over three hours of fun the beautifully lit Carlton Gardens, with the Landscape Show Gardens, Achieveable Gardens, and the Great Hall of Flowers (on the ground floor of the Royal Exhibition Building) also open to visitors.

Food trucks that have come on board include the highlight sought after Manny’s Doughnuts, Toasta, A Salted Squid, Yo India, Speedy Gonzales, Smokin’ Barrys, and Let’s Do Yum Cha, ensuring that various cuisines are available to those heading along. Picnic hamers and blankets will also be available for pre-order prior to the event. The main drink selection will come from a popup Garden Bar by Jansz Sparkling Wine, with a happy hour set for 6pm to 7pm.

Live floral design competitions will feature at the event, as well as popups from a whole host of exhibitors keen to educate budding or experienced garden enthusiasts.

Entry is set at $20 ($10 for 6-16 year olds, and free for children 5 years and under) and can be purchased at the gate or online HERE.
