This notion seems to be gaining momentum across the food industry with Song kitchen’s profit for purpose model aiming to do just that. Located beneath the YWCA NSW’s Song Hotel (formerly the Y Hotel) all proceeds from the restaurant, café and bar fund services and support for domestic violence victims.
Eating for a cause also alludes to eating well, apparent in head chef Charlotte Gonzales-Poncet (Merivale’s Uccello and Fred’s) Mediterranean-inspired bistro menu. Share entrees such as the charcuterie plate with house-made pickles, duck croquettes, and pork terrine with apricot, pistachio and chargrilled bread are supplemented with hearty classics such as scotch fillet with shoestring fries and crisp-skinned salmon with beetroot, as well as daily seasonal specials and freshly made pasta. The wine list has been carefully curated by renowned sommelier and consultant Sophie Otton (Rockpool Bar & Grill) with a focus on NSW labels and true to the association’s core values, women winemakers or female estate owners.
YWCA NSW Ambassador and former Queensland premier, Anna Bligh is an avid supporter of the foundation’s recent rebrand stating – “People want to make a difference and support a cause and Song Kitchen leads the way in allowing you to do exactly that.
