Gelato Messina are serving up pies at their Rosebery HQ this weekend (Sydney)

You know Messina Eats right? That delicious foodie series created last year by Gelato Messina in which the dessert empire invites all sorts of savoury champions to their Rosebery HQ in Sydney to put together a carpark feast. It’s back this weekend, and this time Messina have tapped into one of their young chefs, Tom, who has returned to the business after leaving to hone his skills as a pie maker. Tom now stands at the head of Messina’s gelato and pastry team, and on Saturday 18th March he’ll be mixing that all up with his love of freshly baked pies. Yep, pies and gelato – you’re in for a treat.

Just how much of a treat you ask? The menu planned for the one-day-only event includes Nacho Pie – a beef chilli con carne pie with corn chips, guac, sour cream and jalapenos – as well as a braised lamb shoulder pie with mushy peas, mashed potato and gravy, a slow-cooked Nepalese chicken curry pie (also with mushy peas and mashed potato), and a pie which contains a medley of mushrooms that have been braised in porcini bechamel (and yes: mushy peas and mashed potato). Any of these lovely creations can also be beefed up with a side of mac ‘n’ cheese that has jatz crust and corn.

If that isn’t making your stomach groan, they’ll be throwing in a dessert of a deep fried apple pie with messina vanilla soft serve while soft drinks, messina milk (salted caramel or coffee) or water help wash it all down.
