David Thompson is paying homage to the Mekong with free online cooking class

Although they’ve paused their river expeditions for the time being, Aqua Expeditions is taking this time to help travellers dream of their next trip by teaming up with beloved chef David Thompson for an online cooking demonstration via social media.

The leading luxury small ship regularly operates excursions on the Amazon, Mekong, and coastal yachts in Komodo National Park, Ambon and Spice Islands, and Raja Ampat in East Indonesia, with culinary experiences a big part of each itinerary. And while they won’t be resuming their schedule until July of this year, there’s no stopping them from paying homage to the cuisines of some of these destinations.

Aqua Mekong

Enter Thompson, who is certainly no stranger to world cuisines, given he’s the mastermind behind some of the best Thai restaurants in the world. He is also a consulting chef for the Aqua Mekong, which sails around Cambodia and Vietnam and treats guest to a localised culinary experience. Who better then to showcase a variety of exclusive dishes to the world so viewers can cook along at home?

On Monday 1st June at 5pm (UK time), Thompson will broadcast his comprehensive cooking demonstration via Aqua Expeditions’ social media channels (Instagram), showing off his take on a simple tomato soup, grilled chicken with Cambodian black pepper and lime juice sauce, and a fresh cucumber salad.

Watching live from Australia might be a bit tricky unless you’re one of those late-night, early-morning cooks. The stream is going down at 2am Tuesday 2nd June in AEST time. Luckily, the demo will remain on Aqua’s social accounts to more viewers can take part.
