Enlighten gets set to return to Canberra next month

Enlighten 2017 is Canberra’s annual festival that transforms the city into a luminary hub of culture and creativity.

In its seventh year running, the all-ages festival will run from 3 – 12 March 2017, transforming the Parliamentary Triangle into a hive of activity. The dynamic program features free and ticketed entertainment, live music, exclusive dining experiences and blockbuster exhibitions. The festival will include the return of the Enlighten Night Noodle Markets dishing up Asian-fusion delights, as well as showcasing performances from a plethora of homegrown talent, as well as lighting up six of Australia’s iconic buildings with architectural projections.

The Australian Parliament House, The National Portrait Gallery, The National Library of Australia, the Museum of Australian Democracy, the National Gallery of Australia and Questacon, will be dressed up in large-scale artistic topical and thought provoking projections.

The line up for Enlighten’s live music offering, will feature Los Angeles-based Australian singer-songwriter Cleopold, Sydney’s Tigertown, down-tempo producer Toyo, and the hip-hop duo The Ansah Brothers.

This year will be also have Australia’s first large-scale aerial act featuring performers, singers, video imagery and pyrotechnics. The show called Pedaleando Hacia El Cielo is a free event, and will feature twice across the Enlighten Program.

The free events program also features the Circus Fire Spectacular, showcasing geniuses defy the laws f physics with jaw-dropping fire tricks. Lights! Canberra! Action! will be bringing a piece of Hollywood with a short film festival representing a new wave of storytelling and introducing emerging filmmakers to the scene.

Event activations will be taking place at locations around Canberra, including the National Zoo and Aquarium, the Canberra Glassworks, The National Archives of Australia, Australia Botanic Gardens, and the Royal Australian Mint.

Running for two hours, on two nights only, two hundred people can experience drinks, music and snacks at The Roof Bar. Located ontop of the Hill, guests can get will have the best view of the Enlighten instillations, lighting up Canberra city.

Industrial Illumination, The Royal Australian Mint

For one night only, a high-security factory production corridor will be transformed into a glowing black-light industrial dance zone, as part of Enlighten 2017.
Featuring DJ Robot Citizen and Rachel Reid and the Fabulous Fan Veils Troupe, the Mint will become the ultimate underground dark-electronic music scene in Canberra’s own purely industrial setting. Dress in your darkest and get ready to illuminate. High-vis vest and glow-stick supplied.
