Enjoy a week of good old fashioned fun with bars, bourbon and cocktails (Sydney)

Modern living getting you down?  Maybe it’s time to rearrange your schedule this week and head to some of Sydney’s best bars like Earl’s Juke Joint, Papa Gede’s and The Wild Rover (just to name a few) to take part in the inaugural Maker’s Mark Old Fashioned Week, which will run from 11th to 20th May in select bars around Sydney.

It’s a chance for Sydneysiders to blow off steam and enjoy an Old Fashioned cocktail (literally its name), a perfect little sundowner for whisky lovers and first timers.  Bars taking part in this event will each create their own unique take on the Old Fashioned cocktail for the week, so you will never get the same Old Fashioned, even if you do decide to bar hop.

Dale Schoon, from Earl’s Juke Joint and state final winner of The Perfect Blend, says, “The great thing about an Old Fashioned is it makes whisky more approachable. Maker’s Mark is perfect for the job. Switching rye out for wheat makes for a sweeter, softer spirit and in turn, a gentle sipping Old Fashioned with a long, warm finish.”

The celebrations start on 11th May at Earl’s Juke Joint in Newtown.  There will also be a True Maker’s workshop at The Wild Rover in Surry Hills on 18th May.  Hosted by TV host Danny Clayton, guests can speak to artist Anthony Lister (pictured below), known for his street art, and surfboard shaper Simon Anderson, who invented the “thruster” three-pin surfboard design, now the industry standard.  Tickets to the True Maker’s event are $25 each and can be purchased through Ticketbooth.  The ticket includes a Maker’s Mark Old Fashioned cocktail, Maker’s Mark whisky tasting and snacks.  Doors open from 6:30pm.
